BEGINNER BAND SIGN UP INFORMATION

5th and 6th Grade Students at King George Elementary, Potomac Elementary and Sealston Elementary can sign up for Beginner Band through October 2020.

Below is a link to a Presentation that explains Elementary Beginner band in King George.  The schedules will be a little different this year due to the 2 days in person / 3 days at home schedule, but this will give a basic overview of what a schedule will look like.

Here is a link to the Google   BEGINNER BAND SIGN UP FORM  Please fill this one out if at all possible because it goes directly into a spreadsheet.

Here is a link to the printable  Beginner Band Sign Up Form.  If you fill this one out you will need to return it to me via email or drop it off at your child's school.

Below is a link to the Recruitment site I have set up with all kinds of information about Band. THIS WEBSITE HAS THE INSTRUMENT VIDEOS THAT ALL STUDENTS SHOULD WATCH WITH THEIR PARENT(S) TO DECIDE ON THEIR TOP 3 CHOICES.

In King George we only start on Flute, Clarinet, Alto Sax, Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone/Euphonium or Bells.

Instrument testing will be done by appointment at the music store this year.  You will need to call either KBI Music or Roberson's Music to set up an appointment.

Here are the links to KBI Music and Roberson's Music in Fredericksburg, where you can set up the appointment to try out flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, baritone, trombone and bells.  After the music store representative helps you pick the correct instrument for your child rent an instrument and purchase the "Traditions of Excellence" Book 1 for the instrument they will be renting.

Please do not purchase instruments over the internet or from an individual before coming to an Instrument Preview Event for the following reasons.

1.                          Many instruments on line are very cheap/poorly made and do not play well or last long.  I will let you know which instrument brands are reputable at the Preview.

2.                          Some kids have their heart set on a certain instrument, but when they come to the preview they either can’t get a sound on that instrument or they actually like another instrument better.

If you have any questions please feel free to email me at gconner@kgcs.k12.va.us.
