Practice Guide

BEGINNER PRACTICE GUIDE

1.      Students need to practice 15 – 30 minutes, 3 to 5 days a week.

At the beginning I recommend breaking the practice sessions into either 5 or 10 minute sessions with breaks in between to equal up to 15 – 30 minutes per night.

2.      For the first month assembling the instrument counts as a small part of their practice session. Starting in October the students can no longer count putting their instrument together as practice time.

After the first month ONLY playing time counts as practice.

5.     Students should sit on a hard chair with music either on a stand or something that will put the music up – they should not look down or bend over to practice.

6.     Each week I will assign new lines/pages in the “Tradition of Excellence” book for the student to practice.

Please do not purchase instruments over the internet or from an individual before coming to an Instrument Preview Event for the following reasons.

1.                          Many instruments on line are very cheap/poorly made and do not play well or last long.  I will let you know which instrument brands are reputable at the Preview.

2.                          Some kids have their heart set on a certain instrument, but when they come to the preview they either can’t get a sound on that instrument or they actually like another instrument better.
